I admit, as I stand, my head held high "My name is Blondey and I am a chocoholic", but......... what happened to it? I don't have a chocolate cake recipe and after craving chocolate cake for over a week, I broke down and bought a mix. It was Betty Crocker and had a Hershey bar on the front stating "made with real Hershey chocolate". My mouth watering, I bought it, brought it home, mixed it as though I was mixing molten gold. But, it came out of the oven, a light grey brown color, not moist but "spongey". So I set it out for the wildlife and stray cats in the neighborhood to have a party. I purchased ANOTHER chocolate cake - DARK CHOCOLATE it said with pudding in the mix................ I mixed and baked and it came out LIGHT GREY BROWN and SPONGEY. Okay, to make a long story even longer................... Has something changed in the cake mix industry that I am unaware of? Anyone know?

hmm, maybe part of the whole, no trans fat, crap?
1"..mixed it as though I was mixing molten gold. "
I loved that part.
2Kudos for giving the unchocolatey cake to the strays. I would have covered it with frosting and suffered through through both disappointing cakes.

4Actually I did cover it with frosting, but to no avail, I found myself just skimming the frosting off and eating that, and it wasn't chocolate frosting (cream cheese frosting), so I STILL didn't get my chocolate fix...

5From Florida Blondey!
I´m with you girl, thats why I only stick to homemade chocolate cake now, a great recipe of one is from Nigella Lawson, that I posted about a year ago, just click here.
Theres even a video!
...oh and did I mention that homemade chocolate cake is SO MUCH better?
6I know exactly what you mean. I had fixed a chocolate cake last weekend and it was blah and plain so I just made another Betty Crocker triple fudge cake this weekend. I just doctored it up a bit. I added cocoa powder to the mix along with a package of chocolate pudding mix and man was it delish and moist. I topped it with triple fudge frosting. Also instead of adding water for which it called for I used chocolate milk.
Needless to say there was none left.
7Mom.....
Holy Moly that sounds good!
8oohhh yeah it does!
9umm, chocolate can kill cats... I don't think it was incredibly wise to leave chocolate cake out for them, just sayin'.
